Why You Will Love Staying At The Dundee
I’ve been stalking the Dundee on Instagram forever now, so when I had the chance to stay there on my last visit to the Willamette Valley, I was beyond excited.
I have been wine tasting and of course, sparkling wine tasting in the Willamette Valley dozens of times, but never needed a place to stay because for 2 years I lived in Oregon just a short 30 minutes away from wine country. And since moving away, I’ve been trying to find the perfect spot to call home on my bubbly tasting getaways….and I do believe I just did.
Location, Location, Location
As you may know, Willamette Valley wine country is quite massive. And we will have an entire guide out soon on where you can find all the bubbly, but until then, here’s a little preview. Located at what I consider to be the entrance of wine country, just after Newberg, the Dundee Hotel is in the perfect location.
Just off of 99 with several restaurants and wineries in walking distance, it’s a great place to call home while you’re playing in the Willamette Valley.
Checking In
Because this is a boutique hotel, the front dest is not staffed 24 hours a day. But that does not put any limits on you, the guest. They will accommodate any arrival time. If you’re arriving late like we did, your key will be in a lockbox outside of the hotel and you will have a very detailed text message on exactly how to access your room. And yes, I know I am strange, but I was so excited when the directions said to look for the door that said “Tasting Rooms”!
They’re so accommodating that even though they won’t be there when you arrive after 10pm, that you can text them back with any of your needs like extra towels, blankets or pillows, etc and they will be In your room when you arrive.
Stay at the Dundee
A boutique hotel that is not trendy is the best way to describe the rooms. It’s classy. It feels upscale. It’s modern. It’s clean. It’s comfortable.
And you’re greeted with a bottle of bubbly…does it get better than that?
We had a king suite which was quite spacious (550 sq ft) with a sitting area, dining table, desk and, of course, a king size bed. I loved that we could separate our sleeping space from our morning coffee space and our evening bubbly space.
With a fridge full of local bubbly and beer, it was nice to not have to go far to have an evening nightcap.
Comfortable bed, spa like shower, luxurious foot soak with the best lotion, and great coffee for morning, the room was perfect. It was definitely roomy enough for us to get ready in the morning and not trip over or have to wait for each other.
The Surrounding Area
In the same building as the Dundee are 4 wine tasting rooms and a restaurant with the cutest patio. Unfortunately, when we were there, the restaurant was still closed due to COVID. I am anxiously awaiting its reopening so I can enjoy some bubbly on their patio.
Due to our bubbly tasting schedule, we got back to the Dundee each night and the tasting rooms were already closed, so we did not experience any on this trip. Another good reason for a return trip.
Even though we couldn’t enjoy the tasting rooms and restaurant at the Dundee location, we did find two great places within walking distance (about 1/2 mile away which is a perfect jaunt in my opinion to walk off a meal).
Breakfast
We enjoyed breakfast one morning at the Red Hills Market. Absolutely put this on your list of places to visit. They also deliver to the hotel, but definitely go check them out. It’s a cute little store/market with delicious cooked to order meals. And they have a great selection of local wine, bubbly and beer if you’re looking for more.
Dinner
We ate dinner one night at Trellis which is a spot I always visit when I am back in town. They have great burgers and sandwiches. And, of course, a nice selection of local wine, bubbly and beer.
Winery Visits
We had a very specific itinerary as we were wrapping up the Sparkling Wine Guide and one of our days focused on wineries within 15(ish) minutes of the Dundee Hotel that had sparkling wine.
Sokol Blosser Winery
I never ever visit the Willamette Valley without visiting and tasting bubbly at Sokol Blosser. There’s an entire review on this winery and why I love it so that you can check out.
Corollary Winery
Corollary Winery is fairly new to the Willamette Valley and only has sparkling wine, so you know I fully enjoyed the visit. It’s private tasting, by reservation only, so don’t miss out!
Argyle Winery
Ask anyone about sparkling wine in Oregon and you will likely hear the name Argyle. Known for their sparkling wine, they’re practically across the street from the Dundee Hotel.
Hawks View Winery
Two words: The View! Hawks View has two sparkling wines, which makes for the perfect summer day.
Final Thoughts
I personally am already planning my next visit to the Willamette Valley with a stay at the Dundee Hotel. I definitely recommend calling the Dundee Hotel home for a few days whether its a staycation or you’re flying in from out of town.
Please Note: While the stay was gifted, these opinions are all my own.
