You all have asked for Illinois recommendations on where to enjoy some amazing wine and I’m thrilled to share Tannins in Elmhurst with you. You can pop into Tannins to buy your favorite bottle to enjoy at home or sit at one of their cozy tables and pop the bottle while soaking up the ambience.
After living in wine country for several years, moving back to the Midwest was a struggle when it came to finding wineries to enjoy. I mean we used to spend every weekend out and about trying new wines and bubbly. Moving back to Illinois where there are not many wineries, I had to find a new option.
I have no clue what took me so long to discover Tannins, but I am so glad I did and can now share it with you.
Tannins Wine Bar
Tannins is located in downtown Elmhurst (Fun Fact: I went to Elmhurst College for my Bachelors degree) and has a great outdoor space and super cute indoor space for those brutal midwest winter months. There is plenty of indoor seating whether you want to grab a table or take a seat a their bar.
Not only is Tannins great for wine, but they also have food (and beer and spirits for the non-wine lover). And when it comes to the wine, you can create your own tasting flight which I always think is so much fun. Truly a great place for a girls’ night or a date night.
Wine Selection
I took a walk around Tannins and was in awe of the wine selection. So much good wine from some great wine regions. You know I was immediately drawn to the Willamette Valley region and it was so fun to see bottles of so many wineries I have visited in person.
Side story: People always ask me why I prefer sparkling wines over champagne and here’s the main reason. When I visit a place like Tannins and grab a bottle from a region line the Willamette Valley, I can easily hop on a plane and 4 1/2 hours later, there I am. Not to mention, the price point is so much better for a bottle of sparkling wine.
So, go browse the selection of wines at Tannins and explore some new wine regions. And here’s the thing, if you want to learn more about a certain region or type of wine, you’re in the perfect place because they are so knowledgeable. Tell them what type of wine you like and I promise you they will give you a great recommendation.
Events
I know none of you will be surprised when I tell you that their sparkling wine/champagne events are my most favorite (sadly have had to be put on hold due to COVID, but they promise me once it’s safe they’ll be back)!

Champagne Tasting {Coming Soon}

Yes, you have asked me to share more champagnes that I personally tasted, so we popped 4 bottles and will share our thoughts very soon. Great conversation, great people and some great bubbly made for a perfect evening.
