Irish soda bread, sourdough bread, beer bread…..how about Bubbly Bread! This is my kind of homemade bread that’s for sure. And it is definitely an easy bread recipe to make with only 6 ingredients.
Homemade Bread in Quarantine
While many people were jumping on the sourdough bread train during 2020, we decided to just try adding bubbly to all sorts of bread/dough recipes was where we started and then we decided to attempt our version of a beer bread replacing the beer with bubbly.
And because I don’t trust my bread making skills and didn’t want to a buy a whole bunch of ingredients, I created this to be a super easy bread recipe with ingredients you likely have in the house already.
We tested this homemade bread recipe several times to make sure it was perfect for you. And in doing so, we have so many suggestions of how to truly enjoy this.
Bubbly Bread Options
In testing this many times, we tried this homemade bread as “normal” bread and then as muffins or as we called them, bubbly biscuits. And we liked them both equally so it came down to a matter of preference. Personally, we liked the muffin/biscuit better than the bread.
This particular homemade bread can be compared to an Irish Soda Bread as it’s quite dense, not light and fluffy.
The plain, bubbly style homemade bread was delicious with a variety of toppings and we tried a bunch.
- Strawberry Jelly
- Grape Jelly
Honey was definitely the favorite and we were sad that we had just finished the huckleberry jam and didn’t get a chance to try that out. Peanut butter was also one we wish we would have tried, but ate all the biscuits too quickly.
Homemade Bread-Bubbly Style
- 3 cups flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 12 ounce bubbly
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted (optional, but so good)
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Melt butter in microwave, set aside.
- Sift flour into a large bowl.
- Add sugar, baking powder, salt, 1 1/2 cloves of garlic, and cheddar cheese.
- Pour in bubbly and mix until combined.
- Place dough into a greased loaf pan or muffin pan.
- Pour melted butter over top.
- Bake at 350 degrees, uncovered, for 50-60 minutes or 30 minutes for muffins, or until top is golden brown and toothpick comes out clean from center.
TIP: When it comes to the type of bubbly to use for this easy bread recipe, I would recommend a brut, extra brut or brut nature if you’re planning on enjoying these plain or with butter. If you are planning on serving these with honey or jam, you can choose a dry or extra dry bubbly which will give it the perfect hint of sweetness.
Cheesy Garlic Bubbly Bread
We really enjoyed the bubbly bread both in muffin style and regular bread style so we decided to try this out with two of our most favorite ingredients: cheese and garlic.
This is also a super easy bread recipe just like the plain bubbly style homemade bread, you’re just adding a few more ingredients.
- 2 Garlic cloves
- 1/2 C sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 T melted butter with 1/2 garlic clove
For this version of homemade bread-bubbly style, take 1 1/2 garlic cloves and 1/2 c cheddar cheese and add it to the dough before mixing it altogether. Then melt 1/2 clove in the butter and pour that on top for some extra garlic goodness.
TIP: Serve these warm straight out of the oven. These were not our favorite as day old bread/muffins, but the plain bubbly style were great both fresh out of the oven and the next day.
If you’re new here, we love to take normal, ordinary recipes and turn them into bubbly recipes because bubbly makes everything better, right?
